CANNY DANNY
by Gerhard Dennis
5 stars It’s shocking! It’s twisted! It’s terrifying! The way I like my horror!

Gerhard Dennis undoubtedly brings us an authentic horrotica. The author builds a story filled with the purest horror mixed with a grotesque, perverted eroticism. And yet still manages to keep us curious until the final chapters on who Canny Danny's otherworldly harem of cannibalistic sex slaves really are.
For me, characters are the key pieces for a good story. All the characters in the book are very well-developed, but I have to point out that Dennis has outdone himself with the two main characters, Canny Danny and Gerald Grimes. They are both endearing. And in this book, this detail is extremely important since the story revolves around the two characters.
I was fascinated by Danny and Gerald from the unusual encounter that brought them together and as the story unfolds. The author urges us to participate in this relationship, sometimes even to choose sides. The mystery is continuous, and we find ourselves turning the pages obsessively in order to find out the fate of the characters and the conclusion of the story.
Another thing that attracted me a lot in this book are the references to books and authors of horror and erotica, which the author brings us through Danny and Gerald. Also the POV changes on each part. It was very well executed, and that created a unique feature that adds a highlight to the story. And the fact that, even though I am an avid horror reader, the ending was really unexpected and surprised me.
Some may think that Canny Danny is not an easy-to-digest book, sorry for the pun, but I can guarantee that it is a must-read for lovers of good horror. It's shocking! It's violent! It's obscene! Taboos are crossed. But nothing in the book is there at random. Everything has a purpose for the story.
Canny Danny is magnificently well written. And if this is Gerhard Dennis' debut, I can't wait for his next books.
